ren-ard asked: Hello miss Maggie! I really liked the Raven Cycle and all the lore incorporated in it. I was wondering if you have some reference you could share with us? It's all very interesting but I'm having a hard time finding usefull ressource. :/ Thank you lots and it was really nice to meet you in Quebec, we don't often get author from the US. :3
I loved Quebec. I stayed in a stranger’s basement and it was very nice.
I’m not sure which part you’d like references for, so I’ll just barf out a list.
The Magic:
TRC is based on Arthurian legend, Welsh mythology (which is what Arthur is based on), the Ulster Cycle, and the Celtic music I grew up listening to and playing.
A lot of folks, especially international, are confused about the location — the Raven Cycle takes place in the western half of Virginia (not West Virginia, which is a different state entirely). The eastern side of Virginia, close to the ocean and Washington, D.C., is a very different place in both culture and topography. Virginia is 430 miles wide — 160 miles wider than the UK, about a third as wide as all of Europe, and an 8 hour drive from end to end.
